A channel group uses source and medium rules to place individual visits into broader reporting categories. Organic search, paid social, and email become comparable groups under a shared definition.

The demo routes the same three visits through channel rules. Changing the paid-social rule moves a visit between report buckets without changing the underlying visit count.

Record rule changes before comparing reports across periods. Classification describes traffic type; it does not prove causal contribution.

When to use

Use it when many traffic sources need a consistent channel-level report.
